The Technical rundown or Specification
of the Fiesta.
Firstly the car is a Ford Fiesta
Si, this car has never been run on the normal roads and never will, firsty
I will go through the specification:
ENGINE.
It is basicly a standard 1800 road
engine, as the regulations of the championship will not let us do too much,
although the engine is tuned by specialists.
GEARBOX.
This is completly standard
SUSPENSION.
This is completly different to
a road car as it is a lot stiffer in order to cut down body roll and make
the car more responsive, also the shock absorbers damping rates are adjustable
so you can change things depending on what track you are at and what the
weather conditions are like.
SHELL.
This is completly stripped of any
interior appart from the dashboard which stays, and I have a new race seat
fitted which has a six point harness to keep me strapped in the car. For
safety features the shell has a full roll cage welded into it and a fire
extinguisher piped in the car. The roll cage not only acts as a safety
device but as an aid to handling as it completly stiffens the whole car
allowing very little body flex.
BRAKES.
The brakes are similar the discs
and pads are the same size as a standard fiesta si, but the brake pads
are carbon metallics which means they stop the car a lot faster that normal
pads would they also wear out quicker, the pads are so harsh they can ruin
a set of discs in sometimes only two races. Also special racing brake fluid
is used as normal brake fluid could not cope with the temprtures and would
boil which would mean I would loose brakes. Competition brake fluid can
tolerate much higher tempratures.
TYRES.
Slick tyres are used, these provide
massively more grip than standard road tyres but unfortunately they wear
out rather a lot quicker. Although having said this slicks would be a bad
choice in the wet, in this case I would choose cut slicks or wets.
And that basicly sums up my race
car.
